PSG v Real Madrid Match Preview

Tomorrow, Paris Saint Germain will host current Champions League winners, Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions last-16, second leg.

PSG, without record signing, Neymar, will be looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit. The Brazilian was left with a fracture to his right foot after PSG’s Ligue 1 victory over Marseille last week. He has since undergone surgery and will begin rehabilitation soon. Brazil’s Team Doctor suspects he will be out for around 3 months but expects the 26-year-old to play in the World Cup this Summer.

The fitness of his fellow team mate, Kylian Mbappe is doubtful after an injury to his ankle. The teenager asked not to play the second half of the quarter final of the Coupe de France cup after taking a heavy knock to his right ankle. The French forward’s fitness is continuing to be monitored but PSG’s training session on Sunday saw Mbappe put his ankle to the test.

With the possibility of both star signings missing the Champions League fixture, how will PSG compare against The Whites?

Real Madrid will count on their star man, Cristiano Ronaldo. A player who has evidently been saving his best for this tournament.  Los Blancos are also hopeful with the return of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos after missing Saturday’s La Liga game against Getafe.

Madrid’s La Liga form hasn’t been great; they currently lie 3rd in the table, as rivals Barcelona lead in La Liga with 8 points over Atletico and 15 over Real.

However, as the chances of The Whites winning La Liga this year fall short, Zinedine Zidane’s men are able to particularly focus on defending the title in the Champions League.  A title they could potentially win for the 13th time! The Real Madrid boss often rests big players prior to Champions League fixtures- we saw a lot of this last season, but Real still managed to win the domestic title in Spain in addition to the UEFA Champions League.
